My First MS Walk

On Sunday May 4 2014, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in my first-ever MS Walk at Downsview Park in Toronto. Now while I was diagnosed two years ago, I didn’t get a chance to participate last year – partly due to the fact that I was still trying to come to terms with having multiple sclerosis. I wasn’t really ready to do that.

But this year, I’m feeling a lot better about the whole thing. Having started writing for this blog, being featured in the Spring issue of MS Canada and being more educated by taking my Introduction to Disability Studies course in school, I jumped at the chance to participate!

I brought along a close friend of mine so that I would have somebody to walk with (and help find my way to Downsview Park). I knew it would be a great day to be part of such an amazing community of support, but I wasn’t expecting how much support I would be see or experience.

IMG_3011Along with over 1000 other walkers, I walked 5K around Downsview to raise awareness and support. To aid in the fundraising, I asked family and friends if they could pledge my walk. I had set my goal at $125, and once again I was blown away by reaching 300% of my goal!

It was an incredible day, and I’m already making plans to participate in next year’s walk!

Thank you to all the organizers, to all my fellow participants and to everybody that loves and supports someone with multiple sclerosis!

Awesome!! This was my second year walking in my local MS walk, I only walked the 1 km this year, but next year I am hoping to do the 5 km. My friend is going to help train with me, which is pretty amazing because I need support to get my buns moving and getting active again. Awesome job at getting out there and walking this year, Year two will be just as fun for you too, keep up the good work 🙂
