There is no drag like US Drag

Hi I am Amanda and this is my blog…

U.S. Drag“US Drag is a term coined by William Burroughs…” It is also a kick a$$ fringe show I have had the extreme pleasure of being a part of. Since April I have witnessed some VERY talented actors rehearsing, and me (the youngest of them all) got to be their stage manager. The amount of responsibility that goes into this role was way above my head at the time I agreed to the project however thanks to the support of the director, Tom McHale, and the producers, Samara Stern, Zoe Gamache and Josh Vokey, I was provided with all the tools I needed to excel-and managed to have some fun along the way.

The Toronto Fringe Festival runs two weeks in July every year. It features original works, well-known plays and plays that exist but for whatever reason aren’t put on all that often. Our show, US Drag, was written by Gina Gionfriddo who is a witty playwright that has created a very episodic and very “film-like” play. The play is a dark comedy about two best friends seeking money, love, and fame — the American Dream. With a college degree in one hand and a cocktail in the other, they’re at a loss between “The Dream” and their reality. They find an answer in the form of a reward for information about a serial attacker — but instead get sucked into a community of victims and crusaders.

If you are in Toronto from July 5-July 14 I recommend seeing whatever you can at the Fringe Festival. But really I am shamlessly promoting my show, and here are the dates it is running:

  • July 5 8:45pm
  • July 7 5:15pm
  • July 9 12:45pm
  • July 10 6:45pm
  • July 11 3:30pm
  • July 12 5:15pm
  • July 14 11:00pm

Our venue is the Randolph Theatre (formerly the Bathurst St Theatre at 736 Bathurst st).

With my professional life I am noticing a pattern. The more opportunities I receive the more I am challenged but more importantly each time they are more and more rewarding…and every connection I make and every job I book I consider a victory in the fight against MS because I get to show that many more people that I have MS but MS doesn’t have me.

Thats all for now folks, thanks for reading!!! 😀
